WalterFedy’s website redesign
WalterFedy is an integrated design firm of architects and engineers committed to creating innovative, sustainable solutions for their customers, the community, and the environment. They needed a new website as their previous one featured a conflicting colour palette and restrictive layouts that did not effectively showcase their diverse Portfolio. The light purple and overpowering red hues created accessibility issues and failed to represent the firm’s cutting-edge work. While the outdated, rigid design layout limited the orientations in which they could present their work. The goal was to modernize the aesthetics, enhance user experience, and provide a platform highlighting WalterFedy’s broad range of projects and expertise while addressing these challenges.
A refreshed and modernized look
To address these issues, I took a modern and minimalist approach to the overall design inspired by contemporary architecture magazines. The new website is based on a black-and-white colour scheme, with red used sparingly to highlight headings, interactions, and UI elements. This refined colour scheme ensures a sleek, modern look while still allowing WalterFedy’s high-quality photography to take center stage, prioritize accessibility, and stay true to the brand.

Dynamic and flexible layouts
The WalterFedy team was concerned about how to display different image orientations without affecting the visual impact of their projects. To address this, I implemented flexible layouts incorporating portrait and landscape photography. For example, the homepage and internal banners showcase full-screen landscape views of completed buildings, with portrait interiors or detailed shots overlaid. Additionally, we added a subtle parallax effect to enhance visual engagement. This effect reveals more of the image as users scroll, creating a dynamic browsing experience.
Enhanced Portfolio experience and filtering
To improve the user experience, we expanded the portfolio filtering system. Previously, projects were filtered only by sector. We introduced an additional filter for services, allowing users to narrow their search more effectively. The portfolio page now features a masonry layout with varying dimensions, and individual project pages include a banner carousel with a fixed highlight to display a comprehensive range of project images. Each project page also provides detailed information about the scope, services provided, and sector, making it easier for prospects to find relevant details and evaluate WalterFedy’s capabilities.
Results
The redesigned website successfully modernized WalterFedy’s online presence, addressing previous concerns while showcasing their work in a compelling and user-friendly manner. The thoughtful integration of flexible layouts, a refined colour palette, and enhanced filtering options has resulted in a site that aligns with WalterFedy’s innovative spirit and supports its goal of connecting with clients and prospects more effectively.
